-The New York Times is hiring a full-time Photographer Correspondent based in California who “works fluently in a variety of visual approaches and formats. They will be “predominantly focused on California coverage, but will also take on national assignments.” Candidates should have at least six years of photojournalism experience. The position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY, and the salary range is between $122,529.16 and $147,000.
-National Geographic editor Sarah Gibbens shared new info on what she's not looking for in calls for pitches. To be clear, "new research and smart science-y takes on news or trends is a great starting point.” She doesn’t want “profiles of specific people, companies, or nonprofits;” “First person narratives;” “very evergreen explainers;” and “story pitches that could be reports.” According to the information Gibbens gave to Study Hall, while the rate is $1 per word, they “set a flat fee based on word count, so a story assigned at 1,000 words would be a $1,000 flat fee.” Send pitches to [email protected]
-The Information is hiring a reporter based in NYC or SF for the Weekend section “to cover the future and business of sports — with a major focus on women's sports.” Candidates should have “experience on a national sports or media industry beat, but we will consider promising candidates who show a strong desire to dive in and have the story ideas to prove it.” The salary range is $80,000–$160,000. Email Weekend editor Abe Brown at [email protected] with questions about the position.
-Figma is hiring a content strategist to join its Story Studio team and manage its editorial calendar and workflow. “As we continue to grow and innovate, we're looking for a passionate individual with strong editorial and organizational skills to help shape and share Figma's story with the world.” Candidates should have at least three years of “experience in content production, editorial planning, and cross-functional project management within the SaaS industry.” The position can be based in NYC or San Francisco, and the salary range for these two locations is $122,000-$260,000.
