-National Geographic editor Sarah Gibbens shared new info on what she's not looking for in calls for pitches. To be clear, "new research and smart science-y takes on news or trends is a great starting point.” She doesn’t want “profiles of specific people, companies, or nonprofits;” “First person narratives;” “very evergreen explainers;” and “story pitches that could be reports.” According to the information Gibbens gave to Study Hall, while the rate is $1 per word, they “set a flat fee based on word count, so a story assigned at 1,000 words would be a $1,000 flat fee.” Send pitches to [email protected]
