Reporting on local and national politics can feel opaque to those who have yet to crack the code. Perhaps more than even culture writing, politics requires knowledge of a specific, technical kind of language. In this class, Grace Byron will guide you on how to generate ideas, find outlets, and use the lingo that veteran politics reporters and editors use when building a story. From interviewing subjects, write-arounds, and opinion pieces, you will analyze a few pitches and stories to get a better sense of how to get started. You'll leave this one-hour class feeling prepared to start your political reporting journey and hopefully have a few ideas of how to get tips and pitch new editors.

-Trans Journalists Association is accepting applications for the Level Up stipend program, which provides professional development funding for student, freelance, and staff journalists to attend conferences, leadership programs, or trainings. Applicants should have a proposed opportunity that supports gender-expansive journalists or improves coverage of trans communities. Stipends of $500, $750, or $1,000 are available. Apply through the grant page by September 1, 2026 at 9AM PT.

 -Semafor is hiring a remote Editorial Event Producer based in the US (though Washington, DC or NYC are preferred) to help produce its flagship global economic event. They will own outreach and booking for high-profile prospective guests, lead pre-event editorial calls, and develop programming recommendations. Candidates should have seven years of experience in broadcast journalism, executive communications, or event programming, exceptional interpersonal skills, and knowledge of major business and economic trends. The rate starts at $50 per hour.

 - MIT Technology Review news editor Charlotte Jee said she is open to “news and analysis pitches” and asked for a “compelling, original story idea that tells us something new and interesting about the latest technologies.” According to the pitch guide, the rates range from $1 to $2 per word. -Princeton University is accepting applications for the Visiting Ferris Professorship of Journalism, a one-semester position for practicing journalists to teach seminars in journalism and creative nonfiction. Full-time and part-time roles require on-campus presence during the Fall 2027 or Spring 2028 semester. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree, a record of distinction in journalism, and at least five years of experience working at a news organization or writing for major publications. The salary is $37,500 per semester for part-time and $75,000 per semester for full-time. Apply through the fellowship page by October 30, 2026.

 -Wirecutter is hiring a Supervising Editor, Technology based in NYC to manage coverage and staff on its technology team. They will set section strategy, assign and edit long-form guides and short-form articles, and manage staff writers. Candidates should have five years of editing experience, two years of experience managing writers, and strong knowledge of service journalism and consumer technology. The salary range is $92,700 to $109,000.
