STUDY HALL COURSES:

Grace Byron’s “Reporting On Politics 101”

Reporting on local and national politics can feel opaque to those who have yet to crack the code. Perhaps more than even culture writing, politics requires knowledge of a specific, technical kind of language. In this class, Grace Byron will guide you on how to generate ideas, find outlets, and use the lingo that veteran politics reporters and editors use when building a story. From interviewing subjects, write-arounds, and opinion pieces, you will analyze a few pitches and stories to get a better sense of how to get started. You'll leave this one-hour class feeling prepared to start your political reporting journey and hopefully have a few ideas of how to get tips and pitch new editors.

Grace’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, Vogue, and The Nation. The 1.5 hour course will take place September 28th 10 AM PDT. Sign up.
