In this class, Grace Byron will guide you on how to generate ideas, find outlets, and use the lingo that veteran politics reporters and editors use when building a story. From interviewing subjects, write-arounds, and opinion pieces, you will analyze a few pitches and stories to get a better sense of how to get started. They will hire and supervise a team of reporters, edit content for radio and digital platforms, and direct breaking and enterprise coverage of major regional industries. Candidates should have five to eight years of professional journalism experience, including at least two years covering business news, and strong editing skills. They will report to the Editor of Brew Markets and write compelling, conversational stories for Morning Brew’s audience. Candidates should have more than four years of experience writing about markets and investing, an in-depth understanding of capital markets, and a distinct writing voice that embodies the brand’s style: witty but not cringe, informative but never dry, and memorable. The salary range is $85,000 to $90,000.

-Truthout is hiring a Breaking News Writing Fellow based in the US to write short, quick pieces on trending stories and social media responses. They will use social listening tools to identify relevant news, write headlines, and publish pieces in WordPress. Candidates should have at least two years of journalistic experience, excellent writing skills, and a strong familiarity with progressive politics and social justice issues. The salary is $2,000 per month.
