This panel will touch upon how legacy media outlets are coming up with AI rules, and what writers can do to protect their work. In addition, the panelists will discuss larger questions about how AI has changed the industry: Is it possible to integrate these tools in a workflow without plagiarizing other writers' work? Is there a double standard of media outlets banning freelancers from using these tools, while editors use in-house AI tools? What does it mean to have original prose in a time when LLMs can mimic style?

 -Bloomberg is hiring a Business of Sports Team Lead based in NYC to lead sports coverage focused on the financial, broadcast, and corporate dimensions of sports. They will oversee a team covering major leagues, media rights deals, and sports gambling while coordinating with newsroom teams globally. Candidates should have experience in a fast-paced business or financial news environment, strong editorial judgment, and comfort with data and multi-format storytelling. The salary range is $130,000 to $180,000.

 -The Transmitter is hiring a Science Reporting Intern based in NYC to cover the fast-moving field of neuroscience from January to May of 2027. They will pitch, report, and write up-to-date news articles and analysis for an audience of scientists. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and a background or strong interest in neuroscience, genetics, cognition, and behavior. The rate is $20 to $25 per hour.

 -The Washington Post is accepting applications for its 2027 newsroom summer internship, a 10-week program based in Washington, DC for students in reporting, editing, audio, video, photography, graphics, data, design, and content strategy. They will work on-site five days a week from June 7, 2027, to August 13, 2027. Applicants should have college junior, senior, or graduate student status enrolled in a degree program by October 9, 2026, U.S. work authorization, and preferably at least one professional news media job or internship. Interns are paid $1,021.13 per week. Apply through the internship page by noon Eastern on Friday, October 9, 2026.

 -Better Life Lab at New America is accepting applications for its 2026–2027 multimedia reporting grants, funding solutions-oriented stories on child care innovations and care infrastructure investments for journalists and storytellers. They will participate in a reporting cohort and receive editorial guidance and placement assistance. Applicants should have a background as a new or experienced reporter. Typically, the grants are about $1000 for a traditional print/digital media story, though additional funds are available for multimedia, graphic stories, and nontraditional stories as well. Apply through the grant page on a rolling basis beginning in October 2026.

 -Flora Magazine is calling for pitches of coverage of science, nature, plants, and the environment. Contributors should be based in California and have published clips in science, nature, plants, or environmental reporting. The rate is $1 per word and is negotiable for photographers.
