Here’s a sample of the opportunities we send out once a week:
-MIT Technology Review is calling for pitches from freelance writers for online and print stories exploring where technology collides with society and human lives. They are commissioning news and analysis pieces (800 to 1,000 words), longform narrative features and investigations (2,500 to 4,000 words), reported essays, and short front-of-book dispatches (350 to 750 words), with upcoming print themes covering topics such as Automation, How to Survive, and Rivalry. Pitches should establish a clear narrative arc or argument, explain why the story matters to a broad audience now, and showcase original reporting and writing without the use of generative AI. Rates range from $1 to $2 per word. Send pitches for online news and analysis to [email protected], or send print ideas, features, and essays to [email protected] by November 13.
-Dazed is calling for story and photography pitches from US-based Gen Z creators for "State of Youth," an editorial series exploring underground subcultures and underrepresented communities. They are seeking distinctly American stories and photo essays highlighting local youth scenes across US states and territories from writers and photographers who have not yet had a major byline. The rate is $300 per published piece. Send pitches through the Dazed Club app.
-Reuters is accepting applications for its News Internship Program (Graphics), a 12-week program for students and early-career journalists to gain visual journalism experience telling stories through charts, maps, and interactives. The program is based in NYC and begins in June 2027. Interns will partner with reporters and data journalism teams worldwide, produce visual reporting and interactive graphics, and contribute to in-depth stories across digital platforms. Applicants should have a commitment to a career in journalism, an international outlook, strong writing and communication skills, and experience blending journalism, computer programming, and design. The rate is $23 to $24 per hour and this is a guild position. Apply through the internship page by December 11.
